Each year on Father's Day we celebrate the men who serve as parents, coaches, teachers, and mentors to children. It takes a heart full of love and generosity to serve in these roles, so to show our appreciation, QCC kids will be doing activities and making crafts this week to honor the men who make such a big difference in the lives of the children they love.
The ABCs of Ticks
Ticks can be more than just annoying little critters. They can carry diseases that have the potential to make you very, very sick. Sometimes, all it takes is one bite to leave you with a lifetime of side effects. Check out this article from the Mayo Clinic about how you can keep your kids (and yourself!) safe this summer.
Having fun in the sun with messy art!
What a fun day! We took advantage of the beautiful weather last week and went outside to make some "messy art."
Costume Dress-Up Day
What kid doesn't love to play dress up?! But it's not just for fun and games. Playing with costumes and dressing as different characters fires up children's imaginations and allows them to explore new ideas and concepts that they don't run into in their day-to-day life. Check out this awesome article from the National Association for the Education of Young Children about how playing dress-up can be an important (and fun!) part of learning.

Teaching your toddler social skills: 15 steps to success
Healthy social and emotional development is an important part of every child's academic and life success. Learning how to empathize with others and how to be a good friend are skills that must be taught, just as we teach letters, shapes, and numbers.
This article by Dr. Laura Markham provides tips and real-world examples of how we can cultivate healthy social and emotional development for the children in our care.

QCC Oylmpics 2017 is Right Around the Corner!
Every year the children from all six centers get together in a central location to play games and compete against each other. We keep score and the winner gets to take home the trophy. Our center in Ft. Smith on Savannah Street has won two years in a row! Can they do it again?!
We will all be meeting at the Lake Dardanelle State Park in Russellville this year on June 10th for a day that is sure to be packed with fun and learning! Parents are welcome to join us, so come on out if you can.

The Arkansas Child Development and Early Learning Standards: Birth through 60 Months was developed through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. It is important to recognize Joelle-Jude Fontaine, the state’s Program Officer at the Foundation, who has been a supportive and encouraging partner throughout the development of not only these standards, but also the state’s family engagement and kindergarten entry screening initiatives.
